Jadwiga Waniakowa, born 1964 in Stalowa Wola, graduate and professor of the Jagiellonian University, deputy head of the Institute of Polish language of the Polish Academy of Sciences, head of the Polish committee of Atlas Linguarum Europae (ALE) and the Polish committee of General Slavic Linguistic Atlas (OLA). Specializes in Slavic diachronic linguistics, etymology, language contacts and geolinguistics. Among others, she published the following monographs: Nazwy dni tygodnia w językach indoeuropejskich (‘Names of the days of the week in Indo-European languages’; 1998), Polska naukowa terminologia astronomiczna (‘Polish scientific terminology of astronomy’; 2003), Polskie gwarowe nazwy dziko rosnących roślin zielonych na tle słowiańskim. Zagadnienia ogólne (‘Polish dialectal names of wild green plants against the Slavic background. General problems’; 2012). She co-edited and co-authored the 9th volume of the General Slavic Linguistic Atlas (Человек; 2009), and co-edited Wyrazy francuskiego pochodzenia we współczesnym języku polskim (‘French words in contemporary Polish’; 2012).
